Win, lose or draw... Wolverhampton Wanderers through the decades.
'Out of Darkness Cometh Light' serves as the motto of Wolverhampton; it could also apply to the city's most notable export - Wolverhampton Wanderers. As one of the original 12 founder members of the Football League, Wolves are a club steeped in tradition and success. For Wolves though, in recent decades success and failure have been frequently co-joined; all too often, relegation has quickly followed from league or cup success whilst lofty ambition has given way to alarming decline.
With Wolves currently in the second tier of English football, it is hoped that this occasionally chaotic but most wonderful of clubs, once again mirrors the city motto by returning to a status befitting those who loyally keep the gold flag flying high...

Peter Knowles Interview [25 Years of Match of the Day - Part One: The Sixties]
Brief footage of former Wolves forward Peter Knowles, including an interview conducted around the time Knowles quit football to become a Jehovah's Witness - his final match being against Nottingham Forest at Molineux on 6th September 1969.
Revered by Wolves fans for his outstanding talent, the charismatic Knowles made 191 appearances and scored 64 goals for Wolves during his near-six year career and was considered on the verge of an England breakthrough when he walked away from the game aged just 24.
By his own admission, however, Knowles was also petulant, unpredictable and often arrogant on the pitch and such character traits are briefly highlighted in the footage but also incidents such as kicking the ball out of the ground after scoring at Portsmouth (ua-cam.com/video/H2UIHcou8EM/v-deo.htmlm3s). Knowles was uneasy with the idolatry bestowed upon him by Wolves fans and came to resent the game for producing what he considered his "bad attitude towards people."
With his faith in football in question, a chance call at his Wolverhampton home by a Jehovah's Witness resulted in Knowles discovering faith outside the game and ultimately the peace and contentment that he firmly believed could not be found as a professional footballer.

ATV footage covering the return to Wolverhampton of the triumphant Wolves team following their 1980 League Cup victory over Nottingham Forest. British Pathé footage of an FA Cup 4th Round tie between Wolves and Nottingham Forest on 29th January 1927. Although there's very little filmed of the match itself, the footage is of some interest in that it appears to be the earliest archive film of Molineux and shows the ground before its main development in the early 1930s. Against a backdrop of the Waterloo Road Stand the film opens with fo...

Central Sports Special highlights of a First Division match between Wolves and Southend United on 13th September 1994. Topical Budget newsreel of the 1921 FA Cup Final between Wolves and Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge on 23rd April 1921. I was at this match, the atmosphere was electric at Molineux in those days.
I was a regular at the Wolves in those days, Waggy was my favourite player, he should have played for England many times, this was in the days when football was played by men, not the namby pamby roll over merchants we see today.
Steve Daley cost City 1.5m but i never saw him play like this
Were the floodlights not working there? dark asf
I was gutted when City sold Barnes and Owen to WBA 2 cracking players in there prime, Malcolm Allison wanted all his own players and tore apart a very good City team at the time
The Shrews beat City 2-0 at gay meadow in the 3rd round i remember it well being City fan, got even worse the year after we lost to Halifax 1-0
I believe Hercule Poirot and Artur Hasting also watching this in the stadium
ANYONE EVER WIN THE CAR BY BUYING A LOTTERY TICKET 😂A COMPLETE GET UP 💙💙💙
Hugh Johns was a fantastic commentator.
Proper football. 🐺🏴
JR what a class player! 👏 😊😊😊
JR was a class striker !😊
Proper football , proper pubs , proper jobs , proper comedians ,proper fun ! What on earths gone wrong ? Still coyw 😊
Kenny Hibbit pure class !😊😊😊coyw
There'd be a lot of tears and tantrums I think. "Don't you know who I am" kind of stuff lol.
Seeing an Action Replay of the first goal is brilliant.
Good day. Thank you so much for the historical match. Enjoyed and liked of course. Bravo! Lots of love and greetings from your subscriber. Country Azerbaijan. Baku city💗🧡💛👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏
Will all future kit suppliers to The Wolves please note the shirt colour. That is OLD GOLD. Not the insipid colour you dish out nowadays. Thank you.
Im watching this with the grandson of wolves player Arthur Potts his name Arthur Potts too he’s 75 this year
I went with my late dad,,,,forest fans all over outside but omg ! Inside rambled with wolves fans,,,what an atmosphere,,,the lads were awesome,,,Kenny hobbit and John Richards my favourites 😊😊😊😊😊coyw
Great footage.
Saw this game. The both sets of fans were brilliant. A great togetherness. It was a lovely atmosphere. As a Wolves fan ,always have had a good feeling of Burnley and always hope they do well.
Went to that
How great to see our Holyhead Road school Wednesbury hero Norman Deeley. 2 Goals in a F A Cup Final Victory, We all thought a lot of Norman. Attended his funeral a lot of people Inc present and past came. Wednesbury turned out to say thank you to their famous son.
Liverpool fan here from belfast dereck dougan lovely pleasant guy
Glad Wolves won as that Larry Lloyd 'foul' was a disgrace, those should have been an instant sending off.
The dodgy penalty tackle was softer than the tackle a few minutes before, never thought Highway was a diver but he was here.
I was 12, great team Wolves had all legends, Andy Mutch & Stevie Bull one of the best partnerships in British football, 80.000 when football was full of emotion & passion, I’d watch these type games over anything from todays farce ……
Poland❤❤❤❤Callaghan ❤❤Smith
Albion supporter, but wow, that referee was puddled.
The Baggies supporters are the best in the West Midlands, always class.
Larry Lloyd R. I. P.
I seem to have missed Denis Laws goal from a free kick, I was in the south bank and watched it scored the ball moved at least 6 feet started outside the left hand post, one of the best I ever saw. Those two teams entertained the crowd.
Red card these days for larry the lamb
Keepers no Gloves 😂
Those were the days proper commentators now we got women who we have never heard of because it ticks boxes also proper supporters now its a street cred thing my home town club Leicester got supporters who no f all about the game suddenly appeared when we won the premiership 😂😂😂😂
Same again tomorrow 'Live' on ITV1 will be Close as Wolves missing a,lot out injured
Coverty city have won
Coventry deserved Win, could've had 6. Semedo should've been sent off. When Wolves went 2.1 in 88th min a total travesty. Then 2 Goals last 3 mins of 10 mins Ian dury time. Most entertaining game seen for years
Seeing again Coventrys 1st Was handball, but still deserved Win
Look at the state of that pitch!
Sorry Hugh, but Glazier was definitely more than a couple of inches away from the penalty. A couple of feet, more like!
If this is at wolves no if the second leg is at spurs I think so
Paul Bradshaw rip
England 🏴 was Great back then 👍
JW is a fascist cult.
Bent referee
Grew up with this team, Probably the best wolves team in 60 years, balanced, skillfull Never letting a ball go without a challenge, Very pacy, Richards can you believe only got one cap for England, what a joke. And Wagstaffe superb, Parkin allways a skillful tough player, And the maestro... The doog........ I'd forgotten just how quick he could be, And when he scored, No touchline dancing, or bows and arrows An arm in the air to acknowledge the applause, great great player... What a team.
I love my wolves, Sammy cheung, bill mcgarry, John Barnwell, Mike Bailey great player The doog magnificent Irishman, him and George best in the same national side, Derek Parkin very underrated by England managers, Wagstaffe master of his game, Kenny hibbett, cracking shot on him, John Richards how on earth he never got a hundred caps ill never know, Those seventies wolves teams were just so good.....
The pitch reflects one of the hottest most extended droughts in British history. All the way from April till the end of September, and the pitch suffered because of it so much so that Dec 1976 the pitches still had not recovered.
Kenny hibbett, What an all time legend We were so lucky to have such a clever player, with such power in his shots. Absolute real legend.
That wolves team was a great bunch, Parkin, parks, mcalliog, Wagstaffe, mcall , daly Kenny hibbit, the doog, John Richards, Loved watching them as a kid from the north bank (the cow shed) Much later saw Emlyn Hughes score an own goal when he played for Liverpool against wolves, then much later when he played for wolves they won the league cup against forest, Hughes lifted the trophy, and won the only medal that was missing in his trophy cabinet.
Forest n'a t-il pas aussi perdu une finale de League cup conte West Ham ?
Can you imagine King John in our team now!!!!
